Friday!

We started out the day anticipating the space shuttle launch!  We read a really great book "Astronaut Notebook".   Then we went to the NASA website, to watch the live coverage of preparation for the launch....we LOVED all of it!  We saw the astronauts get in the bus to take them to the launch pad and then the mission was delayed until Monday!  We will try again!

We had our big reveal for THE BOX....it is sitting in the foyer for all to see.

We read a lovely book "Friends" and did some quick worksheet projects around it.  We spent time in the computer lab - had birthday cupcakes.....it was another wonderful day in Room 2!!!

Thursday!!!

We read some a wonderful book "Amelia & Eleanor Go For a Ride".  We talked a bit about the White House and I told the students I would send this link home to learn more!

We are also enjoying "Why?".

More handwriting practice happened today, and wow, these kindergartners are really starting to look like first-graders already!

Wednesday!

(a.k.a. WILD WEDNESDAY...)

Started off with reading some great books on farms, sang an "Old MacDonald" song using their names, which for some reason really cracked them up....it was very cute to see them giggling so much.  Next we talked about dictionaries and how to use our picture dictionary.  We moved onto our journals...

We had a guest come in and do a special (secret) project that will be revealed soon!

Our Reading Buddies came to our classroom to read AND to help us with THE BOX!!!  We were happy to have the help...

Tuesday!!

Everyone is here today.....yipeeeee!  It is so nice to have all of the seats filled!

We had another LOUD, wonderful day.  Ms Hanley came in and worked with us on "Frog Jump Capital Letters".  We are using muscle-memory to write our letters correctly via "Handwriting Without Tears".  Everyone wants "homework" so we will send a copy home for more practice!

We started gluing our aluminum tiles onto our box!!!  Very exciting (and time consuming)!

We had a fun, loud, crazy, interesting day!

Monday

I had a very exuberant group of kindergartners in my room today!  They are always happy to see each other on Monday and had LOTS to talk about!

We had a poet, Lorraine Ferra, come and work with us today, showing us how to write our own poems!  "A___________is a city for___________.  The results were clever!

Since we had extra sitting still time today we had math free-choice......pretty exciting!

Ms. DeSimone visited us again.  And Patrick's grandma came to see our classroom also!  Speaking of visitors - Ms. Colby's class paraded through to show us the puppets they made!

We read a fable from this book "Unwitting Wisdom" and talked some more abut Characters, Setting, Problem and Solution after we read this wonderful book "Visitor for Bear".  Then it was off to the computer lab...another great day!

Thursday!!!

Today is National High 5 Day!  We searched the room for all things five and sent off some results to Projects by Jen.

Ms. Hanley came in and we worked on self-portraits after some core-strengthening exercises...gotta get strong!

We worked, for an amazingly long time, on writing stories.  First I read a couple of beautiful books ("City Dog, Country Frog" and  "Whose Chick Are You?") and we discussed the various features of each story.  We started with a story map first and filled in our Characters, Setting, Problem and Solution.  Then we started on the actual stories.  I was VERY impressed with their ability.....amazing, really!

Half-Day Wednesday!

A quick, fun day.  We read many wonderful books this morning - "the Cow Clucked", and "Birds" were our favorites.  We love a beautiful illustrations!  We also read Jack Prelutsky's poem book of "The Carnival of Animals" and listened to the music, while we moved about the room like the animals.  We did chickens the best!

Ms. DeSimone came in again to talk about touching.  Please ask your child "What the "touching rule?"

Tuesday!

We are finally working on the BOX!!!!  Today we measured and cut out the window and the door.  We scored the cardboard to triangulate a sill for the window to make it nice and strong.  We also cut out our aluminum tiles for the outside and inside of the box.  We will have a lot of gluing to do, but we are experienced 'gluers' around here!!!!  Please send any "Secret Laboratory" items in with your child.  We could really use some colored wire....

We enjoyed free-choice...

Had a crazy puppet show...

but couldn't pull anyone away from what they were doing to watch it...

Of course we loved our sunny recess....we stayed out a few minutes to get some much needed Vitamin D!!!
