Rainy Tuesday!!!!

We are practicing away in here....I am afraid we haven't been singing our favorite songs lately - you parents will have to help us sing tonight!

We started the Fitness Challenge today.  Wow, these kindergartners were really hyped-up about doing those laps!  It was cute; smiling, red-cheeked, running kids...

Here they are reading their poems!

Friday!!

Oh my these kindergartners are working hard getting things ready for our Artist and Author night!  Besides practicing our poems, making folders and finishing up a few things, we started cleaning up the classroom.  They LOVE it.  Some of them asked if we could clean instead of doing free choice.  Cute, huh?  We harnessed that kindergarten power and got a lot done here in Room 2!!!!!
They got a break when they went to art...

Thursday!!!

We have been working on our handwriting and I have to say I am really pleased with these kindergartners' progress!  They are really getting good.  Please let me know if you want handwriting "homework" for the summer.  We are focusing on using lowercase letters, NOT UPPER - unless it is at the beginning of a sentence.

We loved "Herman the Helper", gluing wiggly eyes on things, writing about first-grade, dancing to loud music, and Simone playing the violin!!!

Monday AND Tuesday!

As I mentioned, I was gone for Monday and Tuesday but I would LOVE to remind you of some very important events coming your way...
  • ARTIST AND AUTHOR NIGHT     Tuesday, May 31st   7 - 8
This is our big event!!! Come and spend some time touring the room to view your child's art and writing.  Songs will be sung, poems will be recited and refreshments will be served.  Bring the whole family!
  • MR. ADAIR'S BIRTHDAY  Friday, June 3rd
We will celebrate with treats and a student-made gift!
  •  BLAKELY PICNIC   Friday, June 3rd   5:30 - 7:30
Bring your picnic dinner and sit on the lawn with your Blakely family.  Mr. Rothbaum will sing for us and there will be ice-cream sandwiches!
  • FAYE BAINBRIDGE FIELD TRIP     Monday, June 13th    9 - 12
Our year-end picnic happens this day.  Kindergartners will bring a sack lunch, we'll play on the playground, the beach and the logs, fly a kite and do a beach craft.  Parents (no siblings, sorry!) are welcome to come!
  • OUTDOOR SNACK DAY   Friday, June 10
Send an extra-special snack with your child.  We will trade snacks and listen to some great stories under a tree!
  • TIE DYE DAY    Tuesday, June 14th   8 - 11
We will be tie dying t-shirts with our Reading Buddies.  You will need to send a NEW, white, washed t-shirt with your kindergartner.  The dyes I use are BEAUTIFUL and very permanent.  Send your darlings in old pants that day in case they kneel in the dye!  I would love to have some volunteers to help with the mayhem!!!

Friday!!

A beautiful sunny day!  I am still waiting for the day when everyone is here!  It happened for about an hour today, but then someone went home sick!  I will be gone Monday and Tuesday of next week.

We had fun Sea Life centers today....worked on rock lobsters, glittery seahorses (I'm telling you...we love glitter around here!), sea turtles, and more schools of tie-dye fish.  Ellie's mom came in to make "pizzas" with the class.  Ask them what kind of "sauce" they had on their pizza...very colorful and cute!

I hope you have a BIG X marked on your calendar for Tuesday, May 31st.  It is our very special night - ARTIST and AUTHOR night.  Our kindergarten open house from 7 - 8.  Please plan on coming and bringing any family members who want to see some amazing art and read some fantastic writing!

Wednesday!

Half day!!!!!!  We said good-bye to our Secret Laboratory, played sight-word Bingo, went to music, worked on our Literacy jobs and had a great, SHORT day!

We have started reciting the Pledge of Allegiance, after reading this book.  These kindergartners are already getting good at remembering it!  So smart!  And funny!  And loud.....it must be the sunshine!

Keep that cereal coming, if you can, it's a great service-learning project for these little ones!
