Monday!!

On Monday we start our new literacy jobs.  They are usually tied to whatever letter we are spotlighting that week and always involve writing, and story-retelling, and reading, and creating.  Your children are getting So good at writing...I observe good ideas, punctuation, spaces between the words and capital letters at the beginning of those beautiful sentences!  Did you notice I said SENTENCES?!?!  Yes, they are brilliant!

Ms. DeSimone stopped by again to talk about "safe touching".  I hope all of you had a chance to go over her letter that came home on Friday.  Let me know if you have any questions!

In math we added a new work place - estimating sea creatures.  This is fun...you grab a big handful of small plastic sea creatures, write down your best guess and then count them out.  Then your friend gets to do the next round!  We love counting, comparing estimating and sorting!

We had birthday cupcakes, the sun was out for recess, Mr. Ande came and hung out with us, we had a fun free-choice time and we ended our day with our favorite specialist....PE!!!!!

Friday Finally!!!!

Yay, the blog is back up!?!?!?!?!?!?!?  Friday was a great day, all day, but the best part was our "pudding race"!  We used Rose's egg-beater for one batch and a whisk for another.  We wanted to see which kitchen tool was the most effective.  Well.......it was a tie!

Dancing the Day Away!!

After a quick check in we started off the day with Music!!!  And then it was some brainstorming about the BOX and then off to Bainbridge Dance Center to dance with Gary Reed!

We took some time to listen to a musical saw (we just saw one in a book) and that led us to OPERA so I had to share my favorite aria!!!!  It was another wonderful day!

Wednesday!!!!

We started off the day discussing quilts............and oh did it lead to a deep, deep discussion!  I read the book "The Secret to Freedom" which talked about the Underground Railroad.  It shared how quilts were used as directions to help slaves get to a safer place.  I skipped over some of the pages as it was a bit too sad.  We even talked a little bit about the civil war, and the northern and southern states.

I shared a quilt, and some of the tools I used.  A group of teachers are making it for another teacher's new addition...

We continue to receive "What to do wit h our box" surveys from various classes.  We are thinking (but we aren't sure) that the "Secret Laboratory" may win - SHHHHHH don't tell anyone - we want it to be a surprise!  We are looking for anything from your recycling box or garage that looks kinda "sciencey" - tubes, aluminum stuff, wires, etc., that could be glued onto cardboard.

We have our field trip to the Dance Center tomorrow.  We will be dancing, again, with Gary Reed.

We were SO excited about the Science Fair!  Nine students from this class brought projects! We spent a half-an-hour looking at all of the projects in the gym!

Kindergartners are amazing!!!!

Tuesday!!!!!!

Sunny Day!!!  We are reading lots of poems - it's National Poetry Month!  We love poetry around here....of course our favorite is "The Radishark" by Jack Perlutsky.

Before practicing writing our first and last names (like first graders) we worked on our core strength...

We are getting our surveys back for what to do with our GIANT box.  We also read a fun book "Not a Box".

Paper, tape, markers....can't live without them.....it was another great day!

Monday!!!!!

Another fabulous day in Ms. Keller's kindergarten class!!!!  We checked first thing this morning to read about the World's Tallest Lego Tower.

LEGOS - something most of us love!

We read "Quick as a Cricket" and talked about "describing words" and how they make a story SO much more interesting!

We have a giant box sitting outside of our door.  We came up with a good list of ideas on what to do with it but we are surveying the ENTIRE school and letting them help us decide!  Should be fun.  We will get the final vote, create the idea and then unveil it for the Blakely students!

Here are your little darlings eating lunch.................gotta love them!!!

Friday!!!

Hurray for the sun!  We had a wonderful day filled with lots of fun.  Finished up reading all of our crazy Three Little Pig stories.  We liked these; "The True Story of the Three Little Pigs", and "The 3 Little Dassies".

We did a great art project, using warm and cool colors.  Our paintings were inspired by Wassily Kandinsky!  You will have to wait and see them on our "Artist and Author Night" which is planned for the day after Memorial Day weekend.  Please let me know now if you are having an extended holiday weekend.

These kindergartners are really starting to look like first graders.  Relax and Read was so quiet today.......
