Hug a Tree!

A great day!  Ask your child about "spaghetti and meatball sentences".

We adopted a tree for science today and will be watching it all year long as it changes through the seasons.

Lots of fun art happening around here....working on primary, secondary colors and tints!

Friday!

A good week was had by all.  We continue to work on COLOR and are loving it!!!!  So many great books to read and art projects to mess about with.  We read "Color" by Ella Doran which was a great introduction to all things color.  It would be a fun book for you to check out from Bainbridge Library (as soon as I turn it back in!).  We were SCIENTISTS today as we mixed colors after discussing primary colors, secondary colors and tints and shades.  We decided we wanted to make our secondary colors into a tint!  Our color stuff is hanging in the hall.  Most of the work your children have done this week is not coming home as it is being displayed (please let me "show-off " my wonderful students creations!!) or turned into books.

We "built" sentences from our "My name is__________. predictable chart.  We finished up our glitter names and are almost done with our name book.  I introduced a new math tub - BUGS - which we sorted for many happy minutes.

We had a fire drill today and your children were PERFECT!  Oh, and Mr. Keller dropped by with some cupcakes.....enough said!

The Detested Radishshark!

I introduced Jack Prelutsky to my kindergartners today.  What fun!  It was exciting to share that he is our first Children's Poet Laureate, very famous and that he lives right across the street from Blakely AND he is coming to our school in October!!!!!!!  Click on his name to read about our soon to be favorite poem....The Detested Radishark.

We got out a new math tub today....Geoboards.  Of course your very creative children knew how to do wonderful things with them already.

We are enjoying the Special Person of the day routine.  The most important part is that person gets to be the LINE LEADER.  We do some fun activities with an interview and a folder of pictures to take home from classmates.  It's a little hard waiting for a turn!

Time Flies!

This day flew by!  We continue to review our routines so everyone feels comfortable at school.  I want to make sure they get to the bathroom when they need to!

We had fun sorting shapes by color, size, curved or straight lines.  Learned about graphing!  We will be doing a lot of that in kindergarten.  I love all of my smart mathematicians - they are very eager learners!

Our favorite books were:  "Panda Bear, Panda Bear, What Do You See?" by Eric Carle (we love him!) and "The Deep Blue Sea, A Book Of Colors" by Audrey Wood.  With the first book we were able to have a great discussion about Endangered Species - they were really interested in this so we will continue to discuss this topic.  With the second book we talked about computer-generated art.  We will soon take a trip to the computer lab and make some ourselves!

Color!

Hello All!  Another amazing day with my competent kindergartners!  We are having fun with our color theme.  We are also focusing on shapes - learned the kindergarten name for a triangle - rhombus!  We are also working on name books using lots of different art materials......glitter, here we come!

On Monday we always share what we did over the weekend.  I am happy to hear that some of you went to Hawaii or Mexico - good for you - a quick trip to a tropical place with just three days to enjoy the sun.  Funny what your children will share!

Our favorite book today was "Chameleon's Colors" by Chisato Tashiro.  We also read one of my all time favorites "Mr. Gumpy's Outing".  It certainly put us in the mood for a tea party with lots of animals!

Another fun day...

Friday Already!

A great day....a bit warm at afternoon recess - we were ready for water.  Our class went to our first Specialist today which was library.  We learned the routines, listened to a story and got to read books from the kindergarten book bins.  My class won't be checking out books until they have had a couple of rotations in the library.

We had an assembly this morning to learn more about the Blakely 3 R's which are Reasonable, Responsible, Respectful.  The teachers did three skits to represent the themes and I was lucky enough to be in one of them!

The "exercises" we did yesterday with Ms. Hanley were from Brain Dance, which is a great way to wake up our brains to get ready to learn.  And it is fun.

Our favorite book of the day:  Kid Tea, another great book about colors.

We had lots of fun with the Math Tubs...
Polydrons

Unifix Cubes
Pattern Blocks

I hope you have a great three day weekend.  Don't forget about Parent Night (adults only!) on Tuesday at 6:00.  If you can't make it at 6, just get here when you can.

View from our room......the best classroom at Blakely!

First Day Fun!

Wow!  I am amazed how confident these little kindergartners are!  They're raising their hands, standing in line, listening to their teacher (mostly), and making new friends ALREADY!!!  We had a great first day.

I got their "coconut photos" up on our Chicka Chicka Boom Boom bulletin board.

Favorite book already is Pete the Cat I Love My White Shoes.  We will be reading lots of books about colors for the next couple of weeks.

Thanks for sending in all of your stuff....keep it coming if you haven't had a chance, or you can bring it on our Tuesday Parent Night.

I am sure you have a very tired child this evening.....they looked a little dazed when I put them on the bus.  I hope they want to come back and try it again tomorrow.  I can't wait!
