Wednesday!

We continued to celebrate Chinese New Year today making almond cookies, lanterns, banners and lucky money envelopes.  A big thank you to Patrick's mom.....the activities went well due to her wonderful organization and help - making it possible for just the two of us to pull it off!  It was really fun!!!!

Tuesday!!

Okay, we were only down five today.....good health is returning!!!

We worked on handwriting, patterns, following multi-step directions, and positional words...put the bear, behind, under, on, beside and the most fun - in the chair.

We read a a great story, "Sam and the Lucky Money".  A homeless man was one of the characters in the book.  This lead to a good discussion about how we can help others in our community.  The class came up with the idea of donating red jam to Helpline for Valentine's Day.  Don't you love it - something yummy and red.  So please send in a jar of red jam or jelly by next Monday, if you can.  I hope it is not too short of a notice but we gotta be spontaneous around here when you are working with kindergartners!

We practiced counting to 100 with a friend...

 .

Ms. Bautista, our occupational therapist, came and and did a lesson on "social smarts" and how we can be Social Detectives.  The book is "You Are a Social Detective".  Lots to think about and work on!

We had some interesting sharing today..

Please send in shoe boxes, and a jar of red jam.

Tomorrow we will have a festive morning doing some Chinese New Year activities and making almond cookies.  On Monday, we will have a Valentines Party.  And at the end of the month we will be celebrating 100's day.  Your child's homework will be to put together 100 items (counted out in tens is an easy way to do it) on paper or a poster.  Ideas are: Cheerios, marshmallows, pebbles, paper clips.....anything you can get your hands on that is cheap!  It will be another party for the month of February!!!!!

Blue Monday

What a odd day!  By noon we were down to 10 students left in our class.  Last week it was lots of coughing (which is still hanging on) but this week it looks like the stomach flu. I thought we would beat the germs since I disinfect the desks EVERY day!?!??!!!?!?!!  Room 2 was very quiet, indeed!  I switched things up a bit because I did not want so many kindergartners to miss what I had planned.

We will be making Valentine mail boxes with our Reading Buddies.  Please send in a shoebox (or any extras if you have them) as soon as possible!  They will also need valentines for 20 friends.  I will send home a name list.

Okay, I have the windows wide open and I am off to disinfect all surfaces!

Friday!!!!!

We are ending the week with a sputter......by noon we had seven kindergartners gone!  It wasn't the same without them.....although I might add the noise level seemed just as high as when everyone is here!  I am sharing the bug wall with you as it will soon be gone...

Wednesday!!!!

A great day.  We started off with some Groundhog Day activities.  Read a cute book, and made our own little book.

We learned about the Chinese Zodiac and how the animals were chosen for each year by reading the book "The Great Race, The Story of the Chinese Zodiac".  This room is filled with Monkeys and Roosters.  Ask your kindergartner which one they are if you don't already know!

We had a wonderful free choice time with our third-grade buddies!  Fun was had by all!

Tuesday!

A beautiful sunny day for these kindergartners!  We started off the day talking about Chinese New year, reading "Bring In the New Year", "Chinese New Year" and "Grandfather Tang's Story".  We learned many new customs and can't wait for the lunar new year to begin!

We learned about tangrams! Tangrams are ancient Chinese puzzles that are still used today by many. Our tangrams begin with a square, which the kindergartners cut out and use to create a picture.  The rules are that each "tan" must be used; they must touch at least one other piece, but none may overlap!

During free choice the kindergartners decided to have a puppet show.  It was so cute - they spent most of their time making tickets and signs.
