Full Week Ahead!

We have started a week of Nursery Rhymes.  Now I have to tell you, I was a skeptic at first, thinking that Nursery Rhymes were archaic, sexist and a bit violent.  But I have been won over - there's a reason we learn nursery rhymes as young children. They help us develop an ear for our language. Rhyme and rhythm highlight the sounds and syllables in words. And understanding sounds and syllables helps kids learn to read!  Read more: Why Nursery Rhymes?

This day flew by....we are so busy on Monday - getting back into the routine, (very easy for these smart students), sharing what we did on the weekend, learning what the literacy jobs will be for the week.  We sang a new song "Come on and Sing" and read books and a poem about dancing dinosaurs.  Our favorite book was  "The Great Nursery Rhyme Disaster" by David Conway.

Thanks you for sending in forms, and supplies.  For those of you who haven't sent in your $10 for miscellaneous projects, it's okay, you can still send it in!  I am also looking for more Volunteer Forms, Disaster Relief Forms, Emergency Kits, and Field Trip Forms for our trip to the Pumpkin Patch.  I will also need $5 for that and some volunteers.  The bus will leave for Sunrise Hill Farm on Friday, October 15th, at 7:50.

Speaking of buses, please let your child ride the bus this week.  It is bus count week and the budget for the year is determined by ridership.

Don't forget about this Friday's Blakely Picnic starting at 5:00!  More information can be found in the Parent Bulletin or on the calendar tab on my web page: www.karenkeller.eboard.com.
